More about religion and theatre

We can search theatre origins in dionysian culture and rituals but even in the classic era, theatre was meant to be mostly art, entertainment and competition and less religion. It is a misconception, if one believes that attending theatre in Greece was something like going to church. (www.legalcenter.gr) The show target was to entertain, to criticize the politicians, to teach history, to praise the ancestors and Gods of course. The priest of Dionysus was a prominent member of the spectators, just like the high ranked archbishobs of nowadays...

Ancient Greek Hollywood ???

I 've been thinking about it for a long time... how is related the showbiz to the ancient greek theatre ?
Brad Pitt, Oliver Stone, Tom Cruise may be some contemporary stars but Euripides, Sophocles, Aeschylus and Aristophanes have been more famous and more rich in the ancient world. First class drama authors and directors have been persons of high respect and honoured just like the ambassadors. They had close relation to the politicians, they achieved high ranks in the army, they handled the public opinion. They have been building great houses, they were the idols of the people and every rich and powerful man would do practicaly anything to have them as guests to their symposiums.
Is it just a coincidence ?
